Lenses
Find the right combination of frames and spectacle lenses for your vision, comfort and personal style. At Clare & Howard, we provide expert dispensing advice, quality lens options and a personal service to help you choose glasses that look good, feel comfortable and perform properly every day.

Clear vision, carefully tailored to you
Choosing new glasses is about more than selecting a frame. The right spectacle lenses can make a significant difference to how clearly you see, how comfortable your glasses feel and how well they support your lifestyle.
At Clare & Howard, we can dispense glasses using a prescription provided by our own optometrists or from an external prescription issued by another optician. Our dispensing team will take the time to understand your prescription, your frame choice and how you use your vision day to day before recommending the most suitable lens options.
We work closely with a wide range of quality lens manufacturers, allowing us to source lenses that are specific to your needs. From standard everyday lenses to thinner, lighter and coated lens options, we can help you choose a solution that balances vision, comfort, durability and appearance.
Glasses Consultation
A glasses consultation helps us understand your prescription, visual needs and personal preferences before recommending the most suitable lenses and frames.
Your prescription is only one part of the decision. We also consider how often you wear glasses, whether you need them for reading, driving, computer work or everyday use, and whether you would benefit from additional coatings, thinner lens materials or specialist lens designs.
Our aim is to make the process simple and clear, so you understand your options and feel confident in your final choice.
On arrival
When you visit us to choose new glasses, we will review your prescription and discuss what you need from your eyewear.
If you already have a prescription from Clare & Howard, we can dispense your glasses from that. If your prescription has been issued by another optician, we can also use that to help you choose suitable lenses and frames.
Please bring your current glasses with you where possible. This allows us to look at your existing lenses, check what has worked well for you before and identify whether any improvements could be made in lens design, thickness, coatings, frame fit or comfort.

Choosing the Right Lenses
There are many different lens types available, and it can sometimes be difficult to know which option is most appropriate. Our team will guide you through the choices and explain the benefits in a straightforward way.
Depending on your prescription and lifestyle, we can advise on:
- Standard single vision lenses
- Reading lenses
- Distance lenses
- Varifocal and multifocal options
- Thinner, lighter high-index lenses
- Coated lenses
- Hardcoat protection
- Anti-glare coatings
- Photochromic lenses
- Tinted or mirrored lenses
We will recommend lenses based on your visual needs, frame choice and the way you use your glasses, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

High Prescription Lenses
For patients with higher prescriptions, lens thickness, weight and appearance can be especially important. We can provide lens thickness calculations to help you understand how different lens materials may affect the final look and feel of your glasses.
Thinner lens materials can improve the appearance of the lenses and reduce the overall weight of the finished spectacles. This can make a noticeable difference to comfort, especially for glasses worn throughout the day.
The material and design of the lens are both important in achieving the best end result. Our team will help you choose an option that provides clear vision while also giving you glasses that feel balanced, comfortable and cosmetically pleasing.

Lens Coatings & Specialist Options
The right coating can improve the performance, durability and appearance of your spectacle lenses.
A hardcoat can help protect lenses from scratching and prolong the life of your glasses. Anti-glare coatings reduce reflected light, which can be particularly helpful for drivers, computer users and anyone who finds reflections distracting. These coatings can also improve the cosmetic appearance of the lenses by reducing surface reflections.
We can also supply photochromic lenses, which darken in sunlight, as well as tinted and mirrored lenses for patients who want additional comfort, light control or a particular look.

Helping you get the best from your glasses
Contact lenses are just one part of your eyecare. Whether you wear lenses every day, occasionally, or alongside glasses, we can help you choose the best combination for your vision and lifestyle.

Frames
Your frame choice affects both how your glasses look and how well your lenses perform. We will help you choose frames that suit your face shape, prescription, style and comfort preferences.

Eye Examinations
Regular eye examinations help maintain clear vision and monitor eye health. Our team checks your eyesight, identifies changes and offers tailored advice for long-term care.

Contact Lenses
If you would like an alternative to glasses for everyday or occasional use, we can also advise on contact lenses suited to your prescription, lifestyle and eye health.
